Established in response to the city’s lack of commitment to South Phoenix community, arts, and culture,  The Sagrado stands as the only community arts organization and gallery in South Phoenix — nurturing local arts and culture and serving as a cultural bridge for the Valley.Guided by the mantra Pasado. Presente. Futuro., The Sagrado creates space where ancestral wisdom, living culture, and visionary design converge. Their mission: to provide tools and opportunities that empower community through art, culture, and design — cultivating prosperous communities rooted in arts and culture and engaged in conscious development.Through legacy exhibitions including the Annual Ancestral Art Exhibition and Mujeres del Desierto, The Sagrado’s annual art shows and programming uplift creative voices, bring community together, and build cultural bridges  — honoring Chicano, Indigenous, and Southwest desert traditions across generations. In its first five years alone 2016-2021, The Sagrado impacted the lives of more than 5,000 community members in South Phoenix and beyond.Also operating as Design Empowerment PHX (DEPHX), The Sagrado supports South Phoenix community members in reclaiming control over the evolution of their environment through design education, engaging youth and community groups of all ages in real design projects affecting their community.The Sagrado.
