ONE Community, the coalition of socially responsible businesses, organizations and individuals working to advance diversity, equity, equality and inclusion for all Arizonans, is proud to announce the 2025 Honorees for the fifteenth annual marquee event, Spotlight on Success Local Heroes Awards, scheduled to be held on Friday October 17th, 2025, at the Sheraton Grand Phoenix. This year’s Spotlight event will honor local heroes from across our community who have had incredible impact on their fields and our state, and have worked tirelessly to ensure Arizona is a state that celebrates, respects and protects everyone no matter who they are or who they love. Our heroes this year represent the best of us and are an important reminder during these tumultuous times that progress is possible. Katie Sexton, Executive Director, Arizona Faith Network Unity Agent Honor: Presented by PetSmart, this year’s UNITY Agent honor is awarded to City of Mesa Councilwoman Julie Spilsbury. UNITY Agents lead by doing what’s right; they follow their hearts no matter the obstacles, and no matter the personal cost in order to make the world a little bit better for all of us. Councilwoman Spilsbury embodies the spirit of this award with her dedication to doing what’s right in the face of extreme public and personal adversity. Councilwoman Spilsbury is a lifelong Mesa resident deeply involved in the well being of her community. When she took office in 2021, she bravely joined in support of the historic Mesa LGBTQ+ inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance. Throughout threats of referendum and recall, Councilwoman Spilsbury bravely stood by the LGBTQ+ community and the ordinance as the right thing to do. “We look forward to our annual Spotlight on Local Heroes event to gather together as a community to recognize and honor these courageous leaders,” said Angela Hughey, President and Co-Founder of ONE Community and the ONE Community Foundation. “While diverse in industry and experience, they are united by a shared commitment to finding common ground and ensuring that Arizona is a place where all people are genuinely respected and protected equally.
