2023 Mpact Transit + Community Conference (formerly Rail-volution)

Conference Registration Open Now!
The Mpact Transit + Community conference, the largest gathering in North America of leaders, practitioners and advocates dedicated to building stronger communities around transit, is coming to Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun, November 5-8, 2023. Registration for the conference, mobile workshops and pre-conference events opens July 21. Rates go up after October 12. For full information, visit www.mpactmobility.org/conference.
The conference is organized by Mpact, a national nonprofit organization that believes communities connected by transit work better for people and the planet. Valley Metro, the transit provider in metro Phoenix, chairs the Local Host Committee, which includes representatives from cities and organizations across the region.
With more than 1000 attendees from the United States, Canada and beyond, the conference brings great thinking together about all aspects of transit, connected mobility options, supportive land use and transit-oriented development, including housing and community development. A core focus is advancing specific tools and approaches to building more equitable and sustainable transit-oriented communities, so that the benefits of investments reach all residents, existing and potential. This includes mitigating displacement while pursuing economic development.
Through more than 60 sessions and plenaries, conference attendees will delve into issues facing cities and regions everywhere, from the future of downtowns to restructuring transit for changing work and travel patterns, from climate change to housing affordability. The emphasis is on practical, real-world approaches, so that attendees can go home equipped with ideas and tools that have shown results on the ground. Through 20 Mobile Workshops attendees will experience first-hand the ways transit is connecting the Phoenix region and its residents.
The 2023 conference will recognize the transformation of metro Phoenix in the fifteen years since light rail opened in the region. Connecting Phoenix with Tempe and Mesa, the light rail and subsequent investments in streetcar and regional bus routes have catalyzed more than $17 billion in housing and business development, revitalizing downtowns and ushering in a new wave of communities built with transit and connected mobility options. The conference will explore how regional players are approaching such challenges as housing affordability, extreme heat and access to water.
The 2023 Mpact Transit + Community conference will be held November 5-8 at the Phoenix Sheraton Downtown. This is the first conference since the organization, formerly known as Rail~Volution, rebranded in 2022 as Mpact: Mobility, Community, Possibility. The new name is meant to embrace everyone involved with transit expansion (rail, bus, and BRT), connected mobility options and supportive land use & development.
