McDowell Road Revitalization (2015-21)

MCDOWELL ROAD, OR THE MIRACLE MILE, NEEDED DIRECTION TO RETURN TO ITS PREVIOUS HEIGHTS AS A DESTINATION IN POSTWAR DOWNTOWN

enter PCA and the McDowell Road Revitalization Committee

Description:

As the northern bookend of Greater Downtown Phoenix, this stretch of McDowell Road serves as a key connector to Banner University Medical Center, the Arts District, and Margaret T. Hance Park.

The creation of the McDowell Road Revitalization Committee supported quality revitalization projects along the corridor. Under the diligent leadership of former Committee Chairs Jay Hicks, Principal, Dig Studio, and Joel McCabe, COO, Trellis, the Committee made significant efforts to champion existing businesses, adaptive reuse of buildings, street improvements, neighborhood concerns, and new businesses on the corridor.

In a few years, the Committee helped strengthen the relationship between merchants along the corridor, neighbors, and City departments, culminating in the first commercial district in Phoenix listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

After years of monthly meetings, dozens of Rainbow Donuts, and the development of a prospering Merchants Association, PCA closed out our role and sun-setted the Committee. The Miracle Mile will continue to be a destination for thriving local businesses and passionate neighbors, both dedicated to the advancement of their community.

We are so grateful to join such a powerful organization making a true difference in the communities we serve.
